Rangeville State School is Toowoomba's only school to provide a Program of Musical Excellence to students. This extension program complements the existing, inclusive classroom music program that encourages excellence in music and recognises individual and collective achievements in this area. Active participation in instrumental music is encouraged resulting in improved academic performance, attendance and student wellbeing.
Through small group explicit instruction and a range of ensembles catering to all abilities performance opportunities are provided at a school, regional and state level. Students are supported to reach their creative and expressive potential through music by providing a nurturing yet rigorous learning environment.
Students are invited to join the Program of Musical Excellence in Year 3 learning string instruments or Year 4 learning woodwind, brass and percussion. All students also participate in one or more of the following ensembles:
- Beginner String Ensemble
- Intermediate String Ensemble
- Advanced String Ensemble
- Chamber String Ensemble
- String Quartet
- Beginner Concert Band
- Concert Band
- Chamber Wind Ensemble
Students also have the opportunity to participate in the choral program at Rangeville in one the following ensembles:
- Year 4 choir
- Voices Choir
- Senior Vocal Ensemble
Performance opportunities are provided to students throughout the school year at at annual school events and regional events such as the Toowoomba Eisteddfod, Fanfare, String Out and in alternate years Sing Out. Since 2012 Rangeville has held an annual showcase of ensembles at the Empire Theatre culminating in the presentation of musical involving every student from Year 3 to Year 6. Recent highlights include Seussical the Musical and Disney's The Jungle Book.
