Early Childhood Development Program

The Toowoomba Early Childhood Development Program is an Education Queensland facility which provides programs and support for children from birth to six years of age who have suspected and / or diagnosed low incidence disabilities or significant developmental delays.

Developmental delays could occur in some of the following areas:

  • language development
  • socialising with others
  • movement and mobility
  • self care and independence

About our programs

Depending on the child's family needs, the ECDP offers the following services

  • playgroup (0-3years)
  • sessions at the centre (3-6yrs)
  • home visits
  • outreach visits to children who also attend other educational community programs eg. kindergartens, childcare centres and prep

The aims of the ECDP are to provide

  • regular assessment of the child's strengths and needs through observation of the child, through discussion with family members and some formal assessments where appropriate.
  • individual educational programs (IEPS) to meet the child's needs.
  • support for the families of children attending the unit
  • an opportunity for co-operative planning among the family, the unit and other agencies involved with the child and family.

The Enrolment Process

On enrolment of a child at an initial interview, parents are usually offered a six week trial placement for their child at the unit. This trial placement allows the parents and unit personnel to observe the child and assess whether the child's placement at the unit is appropriate. Regular review of the child's progress are conducted.
